Yes....I'm Still Alive

Well I have been meaning to update this blog, but I never seem to get around to it. I survived my first year of teaching and now I'm enjoying the summer. Sadly, the days seem to be flying by and soon I will blink and it will be over. At least for now, I don't have to wake up at 5:30 five days out of the week. I do miss my kiddos though and hope that they have been reading over the summer like I told them to.

This past weekend was really fun. We met up at Chachos and Chaluchis for Julie and Vicky's birthday on Friday night. I had one strong margarita and was totally buzzing...I'm a loser that way, must build my tolerance.

It was not under the best circumstances but I met up with an old friend on Saturday who I've greatly missed over the last 11 years. Nicci, I know you will probably read this, I just wanted you to know it was wonderful talking to you and your grandma....so many fun times we were remembering! We really need to stay in touch!

Saturday evening Julie, Demond and Vicky picked me up and we headed out to the Verizon to the Gary Allan/Rascal Flatts show. I had never been to this venue and I really liked it. It is huge and the seats were great. I wish I could have been closer, but oh well. Gary was awesome as usual, it was a much different show than I'm used to seeing him perform in, but we got to hear a new song called "I'd Rather be Lonley Without You", I can't wait for a new album with that song in it. Rascal Flatts put on a very entertaining show. I liked that they each got to feature their talents. Aside from their well known songs, we also got to hear one of my favorite songs "Summer of 69" and "Hotel California". Their set was really nice too...very colorful.

After the show, we went looking for a place to eat and settled on IHOP. It took 30 minutes for someone to finally serve us. Seems everybody headed to the same place after the show. Unfortunatley neither Rascal Flatts or Gary decided to eat IHOPS famous cuisine after the concert like we hoped.....I'm sure they had someting much better! I got home at 2:00 a.m only to sleep for 3 hours and get up at 6:00 to head out to Eagle Pass for Father's Day. It was a nice relaxed day but we got home at 1:00 a.m. I was very sleep deprived and slept in till 11:00 this morning. Ahhh, I can do that since I don't have to work.....that is so nice to say!

In other news I'm proud to say that I finished my bookstudy for my certification....Liz I know you are proud of me!!

Adios!

Spring Break in Review

Spring Break is in it's final hours. Soon I will be getting ready for bed and waking up at 5:30 a.m to go to work. I enjoyed my time off. I got to do a lot of things that just don't happen anymore such as cooking, really cleaning my house and shopping. I even gave my cosmetics a "spring cleaning" and organized it all. The only thing that didn't happen was working out. I had every intention of doing so, but it seemed there was always something else to do. I guess it's not so bad since my job has caused me to loose quite a bit of weight and I'm still slowly loosing. I figure I will have time to run and lift weights again this summer.

The worst thing I had to do this week was renew my driver's license. Good Lord, this was an excrutiating process. I tried to get it done on Tuesday only to find that there were about 150 people ahead of me and only two clerks working....I decided to leave and come back another day and opted to go shopping at Sephora instead. With much reluctance and armed with my mp3 player and 2 Nora Roberts books, I went back on Thursday afternoon and it was my lucky day, there were only 40 people ahead of me. I waited an hour and a half and FINALLY got it renewed. Sheeesh, next time I will make sure and do this online 30 days prior to it expiring.

Friday was my 28th birthday. I like 28 because it is a nice even number. I'm wierd that way, I don't like things that aren't paired or even, it's a quirk of mine. My parents came into town and we went to lunch and the mall. Roger, Danny and my dad and I all went to the Spurs game to watch them play Phoenix. It was a great game with playoff atmosphere and we won. When the game ended, we went to Chachos and Chaluchis to meet up with everyone who was already there. I had a great time and even got serenaded my some awesome mariachis. We left at 2:30 then went to Taco Cabana to pick up some tacos. Yes, I know this is wierd considering we were already at Chachos, but the damn line was just too long....whatcha gonna do?

Yesterday was a pretty relaxed day. I went out shopping with my parents. We picked up something to eat and then we all watched "The 40 Year Old Virgin" which was funny. Today just flew by, I got my hair done then came home to do some school work, headed out to Hooters to meet up with Roger and Danny, came home in time to watch the Sopranos and now here I am.

That's about it. The good news is, there are only 9 weeks of school left....but who's counting?

Here are a few pics from my birthday....

Who I Spent Friday Night With....

Friday night I headed out to Cowboys to see Chris Cagle. I was supposed to meet a few of my friends from work there but never actually saw them. On my way home from school I called my friend and asked her if she would like to join me. She is not a country music fan and didn't even know who Chris Cagle was, but let me tell you she had a blast and was dancing along! I'm glad she went, we had so much fun. I got there early and was lucky enough to get a pass to meet Cagle backstage at 10:00. I headed to the merchandise table and we were taken upstairs to a room behind the stage. His manager greeted us and told us that he would be in shortly. I didn't really know what to expect or what I would say but it was exciting. A few minutes later, Chris walked in with a big smile on his face and said hello and who was buying dinner...LOL. Let me just say that he is HOT, that smile is killer! I was about the 3rd person to meet with him and he signed a picture for me and we took a picture together. He was so nice and friendly, very easy to talk to and even apologized for being sweaty when he put his arm around me for the picture (why he was sweaty I don't know, the show hadn't started yet). I thanked him for his time then headed back downstairs to wait for the show to start. He put on another great performance and like in October, was very moved by the love the crowd was showing him. It turned out that they were taping the show and are using some of the footage for a live DVD he's making, so who knows, we might come out.

Saturday we had a barbecue that at one point included about 30 people. I was not expecting that many people but sometimes that's just the way it goes.

Not much else to report on, woke up late today, went out to eat with my dad and now I'm here typing. I really should get to my lesson plans for the week....Damn, I hate how the weekends just fly by.

Weekend in Review

I was offered a free ticket to see Pat Green at Cowboys on Friday night. I went with Jan my co-worker and friend from school. We got there around 9:30 and it was packed! To our surprise, we were still able to get right in front of the stage on the right hand side. Pat and his band put on an awesome show and we had a blast. He had hurt his left hand and could not play his guitar. He kept saying that he felt weird being on stage without his guitar and that he didn't know what to do. He made a funny comment saying that he felt like Kenny Chesney on crack, since he was up there running around while singing. The best part was when I was just staring, dancing and singing along when he looked at me for what seemed like a long while and said "Do I look silly to you baby?" I just started cracking up and he laughed too. It was great. I also managed to catch a guitar pick from one of the band members, it took 3 tries but I finally got the one that landed inside my shirt :p

Saturday I woke up late and didn't do much of anything until the evening. Roger and I went to La Margarita to have dinner with his friends. Afterwards, everyone decided to go to Maddogs on the riverwalk. I had never been there but ended up having a good time. I find it amusing to watch other people, but I did gross out by watching these really OLD men checking out the waitresses in the tiny skirts and little tops. I mean I know they are going to look but it's just nasty to see a man that old literally ogling them.Ewww

We left Maddogs at 1:30 and were on I-35 heading home. There was a steady fall of drizzle so the roads were slippery. Roger was driving and I had dozed off when I heard him yell something out. I opened my eyes to see two vehicles in front of us collide into each other then both went spinning. Roger, being the good samaritan says that we should stop incase they don't have a cellphone and me being cautious said we shouldn't because who doesn't have a cellphone nowadays. (Bev, I know you are reading this, and you are the exception) It's not that I didn't want to stop, I just new the cops were going to want to talk to Roger and we had been drinking and I was afraid they might ask him about that too. Normally I wouldn't worry about this so much but we were in his company vehicle and his job depends on him being able to drive and have a good record. Anyway, it turns out that none of the 4 people involved in the accident had a phone....Go figure. I called the police and we were there for a good 40 minutes. Both the officer and the two girls who took the worst of the accident were very grateful that we had stopped. We did our good deed for the day.

Next time it is raining SLOW DOWN people. There is no need to go so fast. While we were at the site of the accident we saw another car loose control and go spinning on I-35 all because they were driving too fast, so watch out.....It could be someone like me behind you and I may not decide to stop.

My New Do

I got highlights and a hair trim back in October and hand't yet gone back for a touch up or another trim. My hair started bugging me bigtime this week, so last night I headed out to the mall and went to Regis. Normally I would dye my hair myslef, but because of doctor's orders, I cannot wear my contacts for a while yet and dying my hair without glasses is just not possible. So at Regis, I had my hair dyed back to it's original color and naturally, now I have tons of red in my hair which I hand't seen in a long time. I love the way it came out and the stylist told me to go back today and she is giving me free lowlights, which I have never had before. She said some of the color didn't take evenly in the back and the lowlights will help even things up. Also, I have a new hairdo, she layered up all my hair and gave me long bangs. It's seems so easy to maintain and I'm excited to have a change. I will post pictures later after I get back from the salon.

As promised here is a pic of my new do

TGIF!!!!

I have anxiously been waiting for this weekend....I get Monday off!! I'm so excited to be off on Monday and just do the stuff I used to do when I stayed home like enjoying a cup of coffee while watching the Today Show and not having to get dressed if I don't want to. The kids were pretty bad today, actually all week long, and it wasn't just my class. Maybe it's because today was Friday the 13th, I don't know, but by the time I walked them out to the bus, my head was throbbing and it still is right now. I need a break and I need some major quality sleep time. Chow!!

I Was Alone But....

I am pissed right now. I should be scared but I'm really not. I have to rant about this since I'm alone and have no one else to tell it to at the moment. I was in the process of creating the post before this one when somone came up to my closed door in my bedroom and began making strange loud noises. I am talking about the kind of noises that Roger does to mess with me when I'm in the restroom or wherever. I assumed this was him and was finishing my post to open the door and expect to see him and Danny back from Hooligans and watching the game in the living room. I then heard other noises commonly heard when someone is out here and I yelled out "Your Back?" and got no answer. I saved my draft and came out to find NOTHING. Someone may read this blog and think I'm full of shit for believing this but I don't care. I am no stranger to crap like this, but I hate it when I'm completley alone and it's malicious.

They're Baaaaaaaaaack

Today was the first day back at work with the kiddos. It went well, I think mostly because they were still tired from the holidays. I expect that tomorrow they will be rowdy as they usually are on the second day of every week. The good news is that I met with my principal this morning to discuss my formal PDAS evaluation from when he observed me in December. I did very well and he even mentioned how positive I am with the students and that I give them constructive feedback, actually he said I was the best he has seen with regards to that :) He also said he was very proud about how far I have come with these kids with regards to classroom management and their behavior. (These kids were bad at the beginning!) He also said he was impressed with the smooth transition when changing activities and how all the students were engaged and working independently. So that made my morning pleasant. It doesn't matter how much you learn or study or think you know about kids, no one or nothing can prepare you for the classroom experience, you just have to jump in there and figure out what works through trial and error.

Sadly, I didn't make it to go watch the UT game with Roger and Danny. There was a slight miscommunication about which Hooligans we were going to meet at. So now I'm here at the house watching the game and Sex and the City on TBS. At least they are winning. I really should be taking advantage of the time I have now to unpack and put my clothes away but I just cant get into doing that right now.

I'm hoping to get to bed early tonight. I intended to go to bed early last night but got caught up watching about the rescue of the miners. I fell asleep happily thinking about this miracle only to find out it wasn't true in the morning. My heart goes out to these families. I would imagine that hearing the news of their loved ones being found alive then 3 hours later telling them that they had died could be compared to having your heart ripped out. It is all just so sad and horrible.
