Don't Touch Me.....

Well yesterday we spent the entire day at Fiesta Texas. It was a blast but it was freaking hot....but what's new when you live in south Texas. Roger's cousin and her little girl and husband are staying with us until Friday and we decided to go there yesterday. I knew I would get tanned/burned so I wore a low scoop neck top with very thin straps, I'm sure my tan will look nice once all the red goes away. At least I won't have to be applying fake tanner everyday anymore, but damn do my shoulders burn! We got on all the usual rides but didn't go to the waterpark which I really wanted to go to but we didn't have bathing suits. The good thing is we have a season pass and can go back whenever we want.

In a while we are probably going to do some shopping, or should I say THEY will do the shopping while I watch, then tonight we are going to the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus which I haven't been to in like 20 years...it's something different. Did I mention clowns freak me out? I hope they don't have them walking around where people are sitting...ever since I saw poltergeist when I was a kid I have hated them.

Not much else to report. I do have a second interview on Tuesday with the principal I met with on Friday, it looks very promising. I would be teaching first grade which is what I wanted. The bad thing is, it's in Seguin so it is a little drive, but I suppose it is the same ammount of time I would be driving if my job were on the southside, only I'll be driving away from all the traffic.

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tonight was AWESOME!!! I'm so freaking happy the Spurs won the championship....they deserve it!!! I would have loved to have been at the game but it was also a blast hanging out at Hooligans and enjoying it with the crowd. We took a drive downtown which was fun because we rode in the back of the truck. I hadn't done that since I was 11 years old.

Tomorrow or rather today will be a busy day, I got a call yesterday afternoon from a principal wanting to interview me this morning......now that's only in about 5 hours. LOL We are also heading out of town in the morning so I just finished packing for that. Now I'm off to catch a few hours sleep....I know I will pay for it tomorrow but it's not everyday your favorite team wins the championship.

I'm out!

Nerd Score

I am nerdier than 9% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

Damn Spurs.....I Still Love Them Though

Last night was an emotional roller coaster. We were at the game and I could just see them winning their 3rd championship right there. I wanted it so badly not for me but because my parents had come into town to watch the game. There is no bigger Spurs fan than my dad...seriously, I have some funny stories about him. I wanted them to be there to celebrate and drive around the city honking and just to experience the whole thing. That is my luck though. They left back home a few hours ago.

Now we all have to wait till tomorrow, I don't think I can take this anymore, thank God it's the last game.....I just hope we can pull through. GO SPURS GO......I'm still a fan win or lose!!

Horry my Hero

Last night, I nearly had a heart attack. I wanted the Spurs to win so badly not only for the championship but because I get pissed off at the intro of the game where Wallace smashes the Spurs logo with a sledgehammer. WTF??

Robert Horry was amazing and the game was a total nail bitter. We were in Eagle Pass for Father's Day weekend and had a barbque and decided to watch the game there. We got home very late around 2:30 but it was worth it since they won. Not 10 minutes after the game ended we bought 4 tickets and are taking my parents. They will be here tomorrow and we are going to watch the Spurs win their 3rd championship! It is amazing when they win, the city goes absolutley crazy and everyone celebrates with such passion and no fighting or looting. I love this city!! I especially love how anyone visiting will have no doubt how much we LOVE our SPURS....win or lose.

Allthough I enjoyed the game, I was dragging major ass today. I only got 3 hours sleep not to mention the lack of sleep from the weekend so it was hard to sit through class this afternoon. School is actully over for me but I have to go to make up for the two days I missed when I had food poisoning. What sucks is that I don't know anyone in this group and the classes are geared to teachers in 4th - 8th grade, so I have to get what I can out of if and figure out how to apply it to my class. Tomorrow is my last day and I will be glad for it.

I'm so tired right now, it's a miracle I'm actually posting this right now. I have a few random things left to do, then I'm off for a good nights sleep.....I have a lot of celebrating to do tomorrow night : )

I'm Relaxing Now

Well now I can finally relax. I have been super stressed the past two days. I had to come up with a lesson plan which I had to present today to my peers. I actually had to teach the lesson for no less than 20 minutes all the while making it hands on, very creative and integrated with all the newest strategies while making sure I covered all the requirements of a good lesson.

I will say that there is a BIG difference in teaching children in grades EC-4th than it is teaching a class full of your adult peers and a professor. With the kids, if you mess up slightly, you just continue and go with it but with your peers and teacher, they will know you really messed up and were not prepared.

I decided to do a 2nd grade lesson on dinosaurs and introducing herbivores, carnivores, omnivores and the characteristics and traits that are unique to each. I got to class this morning nervous as hell and just wanting to get it overwith. I signed up to go 4th. Today we were having a big potluck lunch and I knew that if I didn't do my lesson in the morning, I would not enjoy my lunch or even want to eat. I am so proud of myself....not to bragg, I did an excellent job. I engaged the entire class and led them in a discussion with a lot of participation. I asked things such as what they had for dinner last night and introduced the concept of herbivores, omnivores and carnivores and based on what they ate, had them classify themselves accordingly. I passed out miniature dinosaurs and had vivid color printouts of various dinosaurs and we went through each and their unique characteristics and how they adapt to their environment. I had them make their own paper dinosaur, name it, write a short story about it and share it in their groups. At the end of my lesson, I asked the class to stand up and we went around the room simulating the behavior of different dinosaurs while I sang a little poem about each...it was so much fun!! My classmates were so funny, we were all actually acting like little kids and asking silly questions and pretended to fight with our classmates.

I got my review from the teacher observing me today (turns out she is a teacher for several children from the San Antonio Spurs) and I think I will frame it. She said that my lesson was very well planned, that I had the class actively engaged and participating, that I created great visuals and that I did a great job and was going to be a wonderful teacher. That just about made my day and now I'm looking forward to a good nights sleep!

A Fun Weekend

Well this weekend was fun. Friday night was low key, Roger and I went to go see "The Longest Yard" which was really good. We got home and went to bed early at about 12:30. I needed the sleep after the long week from Monday-Friday. On Saturday I got up at 10:00 and made pancakes and did some laundry. I attempted to log into my online book study but it did not work which was good because I didn't feel like doing it anyway.

We made plans with Julie and Demond to go to Austin and catch a show at Esther's Follies for Vikki's birthday. Ruby decided to go also and we all had a blast. The show was hilarious. When it ended it was only 11:35 so we walked 6th street and went into The Aquarium. Next, we hung out at Logans until it closed then headed back home.

Sunday ended up being a fun day afterall. I was bummed since I was not able to go to the Spurs game last night with Roger, but Beverly called me and said she was coming over to watch the game. Ruby and Kazim came over also and we had a great time watching the Spurs kick some serious azzzz while eating pizza, breadsticks, hot wings and popsicles. Yummy.

Sorry for the short and uneventful post, but I must get my butt to sleep now.

Chow!

Morning Traffic Jam

This morning I woke up early, showered and headed out around 7:45 in order to make it to school by 8:30. Now let me state that I'm currently enrolled in a rigorous alternative certification program for teachers and right now is the summer training. It is mandatory that we be there and we cannot be late....we could even be dropped from the program.
I hit I-35 and nothing is moving. Thinking it was just a typical accident with the rubberneckers making the lanes come to a standstill I figure things will get moving in a bit. Oy, was I wrong....turns out it was a major accident involving an 18 wheeler that was carrying explosives. They had closed I-35 in both directions and I was freaking out because I was definitely going to be late and most importantly, I had no idea how I was gonna get there.

Well I eventually made it to school 2 and a half hours later....and thankfully there were a few people just getting there as well. At least I made it there and with a good excuse. On a sad note, while waiting to get on Wurzbach Parkway I look up ahead and see another small accident and I'm like great what next? Well when I got up to it I only saw one vehicle and when I looked I saw a person who had been hit by that vehicle laying on the floor with blood coming out of their head. I certainly was not prepared to see that and then felt guilty about being upset by it. I hope that person is ok.

It's good to be home!

I'm Still Alive

Yes I'm still here, only I haven't actually been up here to post or do much of anything else. Being in school full time from 8:30 - 3:30, looking for a teaching position, and dealing with food poisoning earlier this week have been keeping me busy to say the least. I'm ready for the weekend.

With regards to the last post here, the interview went really well. I was interviewed by a committee of 5 people and that was a little nerve wracking but I think I did well. I was tested but I knew my stuff and left feeling confident. However, I still haven't heard from them since they haven't made a decision so I'm still looking for other open positions. If anything, the interview was a great learning/practice experience for future interviews.

I will try and catch up with posting this weekend after my OTHER online class on Saturday... as if there weren't enough to do already.

PS....YEAH!!! THE SPURS WON :)
